The Circuit will initiate, encourage, support and co-ordinate its local churches in regular worship of God, spreading the Gospel of Christ, growth in faith and caring and effective Christian service in local communities |
We aim to serve Jesus Christ in our community and the wider world by
| Communicating His message in word and action. | |
| Worshipping God | |
| Growing in faith | |
| Welcoming all ages | |
| Showing care, friendship and love. | |
| Working with other Churches |
To accomplish all this through prayer and the power of the Holy Spirit.
We are a joint Methodist/URC church; the two churches joined in 1971. The age profile of the congregation is 50+. We are a caring church with strong pastoral care, but we are weak on learning and evangelism. We have recently closed our Junior Church and Youth Group because of lack of numbers and leadership. The congregation is open to new ideas - forms of worship, hymns etc. We work closely with Churches Together in Wotton and share evening services with the Baptist Church.

We have 5 trained Worship Leaders who plan and participate in services with Preachers whenever possible.
We use Hymns & Psalms, Mission Praise combined and United in Worship (A book produced by our church).
Our style of worship is traditional, but we encourage participation by members with readings, prayers and occasionally drama. An open prayer session happens every Sunday at 9.30am prior to the service.
50 - 60 in the Morning Service, 10 - 20 in the Evening Service
All morning services are followed by coffee or tea in the Hall.
The following meetings are mostly monthly; a few are fortnightly or seasonal.
| Baby Cafe | a gathering for young mothers and their babies | |
| Fellowship Group | meeting especially in Lent, Easter, and Advent. | |
| Ladies Group | a general interest group | |
| Sisterhood | a group for older people | |
| Evangelism Group | ad hoc meetings to direct our evangelism activity | |
| Luncheon Club | For those who normally eat alone | |
| Coffee Mornings | for outreach, for service and for raising money for local charities | |
| Jean's Saturdays | Reaching out to the housebound |
Looking to the future, it is obvious that if the church is to serve the Lord in its fullest sense, we need to attract more members and involve ourselves in many more community activities i.e. meeting people where they are. This will only be achieved with strong leadership and direction. A reassessment of the staffing needs of the church will be necessary to focus on growth - not just numbers, but spiritual. Far more needs to be done to encourage people to learn, and be prepared to share their faith with others.
In 2000 the church was completely refurbished giving us an excellent facility for worship and community activities, it is suitable for people with a disability. There are no outstanding debts.
Annual giving is around £28,000 and the church has a policy of giving away 10% of its income each year to worthy causes. We have recently joined with the Anglican Church to support a school in the Diocese of South India.
We publish weekly notices and a monthly newsletter.
